Startup of the Week - Cogz

by Startacus Admin
The agri startup Cogz, that's tackling food waste directly...

Cogz is a “marketplace for food and drink manufacturers & processors to buy wonky or surplus produce directly from UK farmers & growers”.
A pretty straightforward concept admittedly but most certainly worthwhile.
Here’s how it works.
As with any marketplace, there are two distinct user groups - the Farmers & Growers and the Manufacturers & Processors.
Farmers & Growers register on the platform and outline what produce they grow. They can then get matched with potential buyers of that produce. Growers can chat with the buyer and agree terms and price etc and then simply get the order ready for collection.
In essence it means that farmers and growers will be able to sell their full crop and thereby make more profit and ultimately reduce food waste.
Manufacturers & Processors likewise register and detail what produce they require so that they can effectively be matched to potential growers. Once matched they can chat directly with the farmers and growers and agree prices and order details etc.
By creating this B2B marketplace, Cogz have developed a really effective solution for some of the problems faced by both growers and manufacturers regarding surplus and imperfect food.
Due to the current situation, Cogz are continuing to support the UK food industry and do their bit to reduce food waste by waiving their fees until May 7th and also supplying veg boxes to businesses in need of fresh produce.
Cogz is a startup most certainly worth supporting, wouldn’t you agree?
