If you’re based on the island of Ireland, whether North or South the Trust provides a range of social finance and loan options to organisations and social enterprises who may be having difficulty getting backing from the more traditional lenders.
Big Issue Invest
“Transformational social enterprises” are given a helping hand via this fund which is the social investment arm of The Big Issue. The organisation actually merged with the Social Enterprise Loan Fund earlier this year and now offers loans and investments to social enterprises and charities from £50,000 to £1 million.
FirstPortFunding
If you’re based in Scotland and are seeking funds to make your social project a reality, these are the guys to go to. In partnership with Scotland UnLtd, they provide awards of up to £20000 to new and emerging social entrepreneurs all across Scotland.
The Charity Bank
Social enterprises, charities and community organisations can all get support from this “ethical bank” which provides charity loans from £50,000 - £1 million. The bank is directly supported by depositors and investors who want their money to be used to help facilitate real social change, whilst earning a financial return.
Social Entrepreneurs Ireland
For fledgling social enterprises based in Ireland, there are 2 excellent initiatives, the Impact and Elevator programmes offering up to €200,000 and €35000 respectively. As well as the financial benefits, recipients of the awards also receive between 1-2 years’ ongoing support.
