Meeting, connecting and collaborating with other creative and like-minded people is part of our main focus here at Startacus and when we hear of people or places or events with a similar focus, we can’t keep them all to ourselves - we’ve gotta tell!
One such event is the upcoming AOP / Mozilla Hack Day...
If Web Development or Graphic Design is your thing, it could certainly be worth your while attending. Organized as part of the Association of Online Publishers annual Summit, the Hack Day would bring you together with other developers, designers and journalists - all people wanting to explore new ideas and build new tools. The 2 day event which is being held on 11th - 12th October has a theme of “hack the ad”.
The underlying thinking is that for most news organisations, advertising is generally their predominant business model yet there seems to be little innovation in this area from news media owners. However, Innovation and experimentation of this area is exactly what this year’s Hack Day is seeking to do.
Over the course of the event, hackers will be able to brainstorm new ideas, pitch concepts to each other and form collaborative teams to quickly build as much as they can.
The organisers would ideally like hackers to come up with their own ideas and suggestions, drawing perhaps on their own real life work experiences.
On the 2nd day of the event, the results of ‘hack the ad’ are presented to a panel of expert judges who then award prizes to the winners. Incidentally, the prize giving takes place in front of a pretty prestigious audience - some of the biggest players and leading lights of the UK media.
