My project is ... offering training to businesses and individuals in communication skills through performance-based techniques
A little bit about me:
Trained actor and singer/performer in the late 1980s. Since then Ive been trained in many aspects of performance, have qualified as a teacher, have worked as a coach in drama skills and achieved coaching 1 of only 5 students in the UK in 2010 to gain scholarship to the New York Film Academy. Have also gained experience working in retail. As part of my dissertation in 2006/7 I designed a Communication Skills Project using Drama & Performance techniques which I then facilitated on a weekly basis for 2 years at Careers Wales, Wrexham helping improve and develop interview skills for jobseekers. The project also ran at NEWI (now Glyndwr University) for the widening access scheme and I facilitated workshops to students, staff, the Clergy and local business people along with immigrant workers and asylum seekers. Unfortunately lack of funding meant having to stop the project. Now I have returned with re-vamping the idea of running my own business in Communication Skills. There will be various packages being designed which I will facilitate. One rough draft has been aimed at using the skills to help provide life skills to school/college & university leavers, which has recently been approved by a local MP and sent to the Minister of Education for Wales with a possibility of being included into the National Curriculum in the near future. My other packages will be aimed at Businesses and Organisations (along with individuals if interested). The Business Packages will involve one being aimed at induction days for new staff where I intend to save management time by coming into the workplaces and running workshops in Communication Skills and roleplaying the staff roles they've been successful in applying for. It is hoped this will provide much needed confidence in the new staff before they start their jobs. Another package will be aimed at existing staff in the workplace to encourage better communication throughout the business and improve positive thinking into the workplace environment. I am currently 3/4 of the way through study for a Practitioner in NLP qualification and will be attending several Business Start-Up sessions in Wrexham with Business Wales throughout June. I am separated, live with my parents and have a wonderful 3 year old son. My aim is to create a wonderful new career which uses all my experience and skills and improve not only my own life but also provide a secure and stable future for my son
