An innovation by British organic tampon company DAME, D a reusable tampon applicator, aims to gives women more opportunity to have an environmentally friendly period and launches to immediate acclaim passing it's Kickstarter crowdfunding target within days.
Founded by Celia Pool and Alec Mills, DAME is on a mission to to reduce waste from everyday products, without
compromising on performance or beauty. Period products are just the start.
It is estimated over 100 billion period products are disposed of every year - nearly all contain plastics. Step forward Dame's new innovation D. Dame estimates that each time a woman switches to using D, she’ll prevent approximately 12,000 pieces of single-use plastic from entering our oceans.Made from medical grade mediprene with active antimicrobial technology to keep it hygienic DAME is built on the belief that women and the planet deserve better. They’re dedicated to making greener periods possible and doing things the right way. Founder Celia Pool says, “Women should have more control in all aspects of life and often the most obvious, is the most over-looked. That’s why we’ve started with the tampon. We’re closing the gap of inequality by allowing women to lead betterlives and effect positive change through the choices they make.”

To help their mission, DAME launched a campaign on Kickstarter.com, a crowdfunding platform known for do-good projects, to raise £20k and within days had already raised £20k plus with over 3 weeks left to raise funds.
Co-founder Alec Mills adds, ‘For too long, women have been sold on the promise of discretion: that their periods are something to hide and that they’re dirty. Not only does this profoundly affect the way women and girls view their bodies, it’s led to little meaningful innovation in the tampon industry in years. We’re trying to change this by offering women their preferred period product, without the environmental impact. Many of the women who have tried D, say that both having this choice, and engaging with their bodies, is incredibly liberating.’
