Wisdom - mentorship made easy

by Startacus Admin
The lowdown on Wisdom, the social audio app that's on a mission to make mentorship accessible to all.
Over time, the benefits of the internet have become apparent in a multitude of ways, not least of all in its ability to help us to learn and grow. Whether it’s videos or podcasts, we can use the internet to learn useful bits of information from mechanics, lawyers, mathematicians, quantum physicists, personal trainers, artists, writers, business experts, and just about any other walk of life you can think of. Whether it's something as small as how to change a headlight on your model of car or as in-depth as a 30-part tutorial or course, the internet has proved to be an incredible resource for people to share their knowledge and skills.
Of course, the downside is that if anyone can do it, anyone will do it, and plenty of the advice out there is bad, uninformed advice. So what we need is a platform that we can trust to only offer us advice and mentorship from experts.
UK-based startup Wisdom has built that platform with its social audio app, created to help people while also helping experts monetise their expertise and grow their personal brand.
The ‘talks’ that the app hosts work almost like podcasts, but with audience participation (in fact, one user testimonial states, ‘Like a TED talk with audience participation’). Experts start a live talk about their chosen topic, and listeners can request to start a chat with them; if this request is approved by the host, that user then has a limited time (anywhere from 1 minute to 60 minutes, as set by the host) to be a guest and have a conversation that can bring fresh perspectives and draw out pearls of wisdom from the expert that they might otherwise not have thought to share.
Currently, Wisdom is only available on iOS, but it has over 15,000 users and more than 600,000 minutes of audio from its participating experts. The Android version is coming in 2022, along with additional features and upgrades to its AI-based search and recommendation algorithms, and improved monetisation features for creators.
In December, Wisdom announced that it had raised $2 million in a seed round led by First Round Capital. This funding will go towards fleshing out and implementing their roadmap of new features.
