WhatWeWant - the crowdfunding gift app

by Startacus Admin
Giving and receiving gifts just became a whole lot easier, thanks to WhatWeWant the crowdfunding gift app...
What do you want for your birthday? Dunno. Don’t mind. Whatever. Something good. Those with teenagers in particular will know those harrowing words. We want to get them something they’ll like, that they’ll enjoy, that they’ll cherish for the rest of their lives. But we’ll probably get them a gift card and shower gel. And then it’ll be Christmas.
London-based startup WhatWeWant has decided that it’s time to stop wasting money, to stop giving and receiving unwanted gifts, and to get...well, we’re not going to explain the company name.
The concept is simple: crowdfund your gifts! Use the app to create a gift for yourself or for someone else, and upload an image of it, a description, and its price. Then you send that link to any friends and family who aren’t already on the app to receive the automatic notification, and they contribute towards it while quietly judging you. The money is stored in a secure account, inaccessible by anyone until the full amount has been reached, and then you can withdraw the money and run away to the Cayman Islands. Or buy your gift.
Recently, WhatWeWant announced that it would donate all fees incurred on the app, as well as payment providers’ fees, to the National Emergencies Trust.
This move is inspired by the uptick they have seen in users creating gift pages on the app for friends and family to raise money for care packages and financial support for people affected by the Coronavirus, and for NHS workers. Thanks to donations by the general public and businesses like this, the National Emergencies Trust raised over £11m in the first week of their appeal.
During this trying time, WhatWeWant is proving itself to be a valuable service for more serious matters, and after it is all over, it will resume being a valuable service for helping you get that motorbike helmet you want, to go with that motorbike you might think about getting one day. We might finally be able to say goodbye to shower gel and deodorant sets and novelty socks!
