Weezy - the UK’s first On-demand Supermarket

by Startacus Admin
Weezy is a London-based startup that’ll deliver your most needed groceries to your home in a matter of minutes
Recently, we wrote about Manna, an Irish drone delivery service looking to make 3-minute delivery within the community a reality. In a world where everyone wants everything right now, drones seem to be the quickest and best way of achieving it; they are taking more of a spotlight as time goes on, due to their versatility and convenience, after all. And in a locked down world, getting things delivered is not just convenient, but vital. But drones aren’t the only way of delivering fast, and the human element is still a big and important factor.
London-based delivery startup Weezy is proving this with their 15-minute delivery service for groceries.
The startup was created in 2020 in response to the sudden surge in demand for delivery due to lockdown, but it is more than a fast courier service. The startup calls itself “the new local online supermarket”, which means there is no middleman raising prices - they buy in the groceries themselves, stored in their own warehouses, and you buy from them like any supermarket. Unlike any supermarket, they deliver within 15 minutes on average, using only electric mopeds, bicycles, and even roller skates, helping the environment while keeping the streets cleaner and quieter.
The startup began in London, but is spreading across the UK as quickly as it can. Current locations that are serviced are a number of postcodes within Fulham & Chelsea, Clapham & Battersea, Lambeth & Westminster, and London Fields. Helping these locations expand is their recent announcement of a huge £14.6m Series A round led by DN Capital, Heartcore Capital, and Left Lane Capital.
This funding will allow Weezy to expand from 4 current warehouses to open 40 new ones by the end of the year, creating 50 management jobs alone; and, of course, they’ll be needing more people to strap on those roller skates.
With the near future of lockdowns uncertain even with vaccines rolling out, grocery delivery services like Weezy are incredibly important, and will remain extremely handy, at the very least, long after the pandemic has passed.
