We Drifters - creators of anti-insect sleepwear

by Startacus Admin
The lowdown on We Drifters, the UK startup that has created innovative bamboo clothing infused with anti-insect treatment...
Malaria is transmitted via parasites in infected mosquitos. In 2019, there were 229 million cases of malaria, compared to 219 million in 2017, and it resulted in 410,000 deaths. More than half of these deaths were children under 5.
People living and travelling in Asia and Africa are particularly at risk because of how rife mosquitos are in these parts of the world. There are a number of inventions to try to keep these insects at bay and keep people safe, but the more - and the simpler and more comfortable - the merrier.
UK-based startup We Drifters has come up with an anti-insect set of unisex sleepwear that will keep 90% of insects away, including mosquitoes, midges, ticks, bed bugs, sand flies, and fleas, with its ‘HHL Technology Vital Protection’.
These pyjamas cover your wrists and ankles, which insects are fond of, and are made of breathable bamboo fibres so that you won’t overheat in those warmer climates. The full set also includes socks and a pillow case that doubles as a storage bag. As a green bonus, the material has antimicrobial and antibacterial properties, so the pyjamas don’t have to be washed as often, which saves energy (and can be particularly useful when travelling and camping).
While the pyjamas were designed by a traveller for travelling, the benefit to people who live in areas of the world where malaria and other insect-borne diseases is obvious, and in combination with other preventatives, these could save lives. With every sale of a set, We Drifters donates £2 towards the fight to end malaria.
