Wayra UnLtd

by Startacus Admin
If you’re involved in a digital Startup where making a positive and substantial social impact is at the root of everything it does, the recently announced Wayra UnLtd Academy might be of real interest.
It’s come about due to a new partnership between UnLtd, one of the world’s leading supporters of Social Entrepreneurs and Wayra - the tech start-up accelerator programme run by Telefonica.
The Wayra UnLtd Academy will be based in London and there is currently an open call for social focused startups to apply. Interested? Here’s the lowdown on what you need to know:
Who can apply?
Well, they’re looking specifically for digital startups that are aiming to ‘do social good’. So, if your startup has the potential to change society - whether that means improving communities or people, this is for you. All startups must be less than 2 years old and be already registered or agree to register as a UK business. Also, you must not have received any more than £200k of external funding at this point.
What they’re offering:
- Incubation for up to 8 months in the Wayra UnLtd Academy
- Seed-funding of £40,000 per team ( in the form of a convertible loan)
- Coaching and mentoring from the teams at Telefonica, UnLtd and their partners
- Access to the already existing global network of Wayra Academies
- Access opportunities to key influential decision makers in all business sectors and to second round and follow-on investors
Certainly a pretty impressive package, made even better by the fact that there isn’t just one winner, shall we say - 10 startups will get all this!
How to Apply?
All applications must be done online via the Wayra site. The process itself is fairly straightforward - you’ll be expected to enter some basic info about your startup and you and your team. It’s also being recommended that all applicants should add in a pitch video to help bring their business idea to life.
One final point - all applications must be in by 11:59am 24th June so if you’re planning on entering, there’s no time to waste!
