WAYRA launches new call for idea makers...
Launched on the 12.12.12 this Global call for entrepreneurs may not have been that significant a date to some of us, however it could mark the beginning of a life change for early stage Startups the world over if WAYRA get their way...
Open until the 20th January 2013, Wayra ( *more about them a little later *) are looking for Technology Entrepreneurs and Startups across the globe, to apply to one of 10 of their Academies which all currently act as incubation spaces and accelerators for Mobile Technology based startups.
If you have an innovation, business idea, solution, design or project within the digital sphere in the web or mobile environment, you can apply by submitting your entry online up until the 20th January 2013. (N.B. Check out the full terms and conditions for all the small print.)
Now...back to Wayra. Just as incubators / accelerators generally do, WAYRA supplies Startups with a combination of money and assistance and makes small investments, usually around $US50,000 (or local equivalent), in return for small stakes of generally 5-10% in the companies they fund,
“We believe that ideas can change the world and that good ideas lead to good businesses” WAYRA declares and with a philosophy of targeting the idea makers and change makers, WAYRA brands itself really well as the more bohemian and innovative incubator - more the idea and less the corporate speak perhaps. But don’t be fooled - this incubator might celebrate the idea, but it is the commercial thinking behind your idea that will determine if you are considered for one of the 10 academies they have across the globe.
The reality is that you need to be based or prepared to travel (visas etc permitted) to one of WAYRA’s spaces. With global locations available for this call from Barcelona, Bogota, Buenos Aires, Dublín, London, Madrid, Munich, Santiago, Sao Paulo, this ain’t no part time requirement! All applicants will be expected to travel to and work in the locations offered.
Since WAYRA is the global start-up business accelerator belonging to the Telefónica Group, it’s only natural that it has a particular affinity to Mobile Technology startups and innovation. This corporate backing has obviously helped too in Wayra branding itself as a leading global player in the accelerator / incubator space arena, despite having set up only a year or so ago.
Good luck to all of you who apply and we look forward to hearing more about this call for Startups in the next few months...
