Virtway - 3D virtual worlds for all your business events

by Startacus Admin

The lowdown on the 3D virtual world conferencing platform Virtway, that lets you be present at business events, from a distance!

Online conferences are okay, but it isn’t so easy when everyone is in one big chat room. Only one person can talk at a time without it becoming a cacophony, all you have is names and voices, and everything is awkward and not conducive to networking or really interacting.
So wouldn’t it be good to find a happy medium? Something that allows you to sit in your pyjamas at the kitchen table while simultaneously rubbing shoulders with other entrepreneurs, investors, and whoever else?
Spanish tech startup Virtway thinks so. Or at least the latter part; we can’t find mention of their pyjama policy. Virtway’s platform is a 3D virtual world in which anything from conferences, to job fairs, to training seminars can be held online with participants from all over the world.
Virtway has similarities to Second Life - attendants have a 3D avatar with which you can move about the 3D world and interact with things and other people. For example, a job fair may have stands that you can go to and read about the available jobs before talking to the person manning the stand.
Although at first, it might not sound like it has many benefits over a chat room, humans are visual creatures, and simply seeing the avatars of other people attending an event with you makes things more engaging, and makes it easier to walk up to one of them and start a conversation. And with up to 500 avatars present at once in a virtual room and access just as simple from a computer or mobile device, there is plenty of scope for networking at a drastically reduced cost!
Virtway includes integrated networking, including sharable profiles; tools for video playback within the 3D space, PowerPoint presentations, real-time voice; details metrics for the event organisers; and a lot more. We also assume it has a degree of restriction so that your next international employee meeting isn’t full of “Brian, get off the table!”.
Just recently, Virtway raised €4m, which it will use to launch in the UK, its first expansion outside of Spain.
