TripShift - automated emissions tracking to help us all move better.

by Startacus Admin
TripShift is a London-based SaaS startup enabling users to accurately record how much carbon their business or personal journey creates.
The transportation sector produces billions of tonnes of carbon every year, representing 25% of all carbon emissions worldwide. We are told that if these numbers aren’t reduced by 2030, there will be no returning from the climate catastrophe that follows, with some reports suggesting that 2030 is being too generous. For net zero emissions, the target is 2050, and we have a lot of work to do to get there.
London-based startup TripShift is doing its part to help drive us towards that net zero goal with a cloud-based solution to help turn strategy into real action. The app gives insight into the carbon you produce as you travel, as well as giving you suggestions to lower your carbon emissions.
The way TripShift differs from existing carbon calculators is in how automated it is, identifying where and how you are travelling, and basing your carbon footprint on your mode of transportation. It provides you with visualisation of your data, providing better understanding and context, and you can view your footprint relative to your other modes of transportation, as well as comparing against your historical footprint in daily, monthly, or yearly terms. The map shows how TripShift has tracked your journey, and intelligent suggestions on how to reduce your footprint are updated in real-time.
To keep a sense of being part of a community and not alone in reducing emissions, the app features leaderboards in a semi-gamification of something that otherwise might be fairly mundane and boring, despite its importance. These compare users’ average CO2 per kilometre, and TripShift Points, awarded to users based on their interaction and behaviour.
TripShift is out now on iOS and is in beta release for Android. Currently, the startup is fundraising on Seedrs and, at the time of writing, there are still 15 days left and they are at 94% of their goal. This funding will go towards building the user community, adding new features, and doing their best to become a leader in decarbonising transport.
