Top 10 Places to sell Crafts online

by Startacus Admin
Back in 2012 when this article was first published online craft platforms where growing in popularity. Now they are a massive and fundemental sales channel for craftsfolk, upcyclers and artisans everywhere.
Of course whilst the internet has of course had a somewhat negative impact on retail and our traditional high streets, one of the more positive things it has done is brought about and together a whole host of retail platforms for independent artisans and craftspeople to promote and sell their wares.
Some of these craft platforms are more well known than others admittedly but all serve the same underlying purpose - to help showcase all sorts of wonderful skill and creativity that perhaps would not get the exposure it deserves elsewhere.
With this in mind, if you are currently considering finding an outlet to promote and sell the products of your own artistic endeavours, then these places remain good places to start your search...
Etsy
Established back in 2005, Etsy allows handmade items, vintage items, and handmade and non handmade crafting supplies to be sold. The site has amassed a community of 15 million buyers and creative businesses so you can imagine for sheer volume of visitors alone, this global marketplace ought to be considered. Currently it costs $0.20 to list an item for 4 months and Etsy collect a 3.5% fee on the sale price.
Folksy
Since 2007, Folksy has set out to become the UK’s most popular site for handmade gifts and supplies. Again handmade goods can be sold together with craft supplies. Folksy also allows vintage products to be sold but only if they have been upcycled or for example reupholstered or painted. Folksy currently charges £0.15 + vat to list an item for 4 months and takes a 6% commission on all sales.
Wow Thank You
The focus of this site is UK based non mass produced artisans. All craftspeople must be based in the UK and must design and make the products that are to be sold. An online form must be completed and approved before you can sell your wares here.
Not Mass Produced
Clue is in the name here! This site again is focused on beautifully designed and crafted gifts and products from UK artisans. Potential sellers are hand picked for this site and there are no details listed on any listing or commission costs.
My Own Creation
This site first appeared in 2006 and has been evolving ever since. Again, all sorts of handmade arts and crafts can be sold here. Items can be listed from just 10p per month and there is no commission on sales. One slight variation on this site is the fact that as well as being listed on its marketplace, your product would also appear on Facebook, Twitter, Pinterest and RSS.
