Thriftify - connecting charity retailers with customers

by Startacus Admin

Thriftify is an online platform that connects the most sustainable & ethical source of goods with consumers who care...

The downside for charity shops is that they rely on foot traffic; people who just want to browse and see what there is. What they need is a way to reach a wider consumer base to get their stock moving a bit faster and bringing in more money for their charity.
Dublin-based startup and previous startup of the week, Thriftify has the solution. Thriftify is an online platform for charities, social enterprises, and ethical retailers to show their products to a much bigger customer base.
Those products sit on your shelves for browsers to happen across, but if they are bought online, you just box them up and send them on, making room for the next product. A significant advantage to Thriftify is that it can help charity shops to know the true value of the products they have taken possession of, which is a big problem for them for items not as simple as, say, a DVD. In this way, they can make sure that they are not losing potential profit for their charity.
In November, Thriftify was announced as the Dublin regional winners of InterTradeIreland’s Seedcorn Competition, netting them €20,000 and a trip to the finals in late November.
Although they didn’t take home the overall prize, they will be able to use their winnings from the regionals to raise their profile and invest in their operational capacities.
