The Shopify Build-A-Business Competition

by Startacus Admin
If you’ve got an idea for an online retail business that you’ve been thinking about setting up, then a recently launched competition by the eCommerce platform Shopify should be right up your street. The Build-A-Business initiative is quite simply not to be missed....
What do you have to do?
Basically you come up with a product to sell, open your online store through Shopify and then choose a mentor. And what a choice that will be! Each market sector has its’ own specialist mentor:
- The Fashion and Apparel mentor is Daymond John, creator of fashion brand FUBU
- The Electronics and Gadgets mentor is Tim Ferriss, author of the bestseller The 4-Hour Workweek
- The Design, Art & Home mentor is graphic designer Tina Roth Eisenberg, best known for her Swissmiss blog and for creating numerous startups
And if your store doesn’t fit into any of those categories?
- The “Everything Else” mentor is none other than best selling author of The Lean Startup, Eric Ries
There are also some other guest mentors covering areas such as Marketing and Web Design.
Once you enter, you will get regular feedback from your mentor and vie for a place on the leaderboard with all the other entries. There will be a winning store chosen from each category and that will be the store that records the highest gross sales over any 2 months from August 2012 - February 2013.
So what’s in it for you?
Well...for simply entering, you’ll receive a free .CO domain for 12 months, $100 in Google Adwords Credits and $100 in Mailchimp Credits.
The 4 winners’ prizes are pretty special:
- A $50,000 investment from your mentor in exchange for 5% of your business - effectively valuing your business at $1 million.
- A VIP trip to New York and a meeting with all 4 mentors
- A Fast Company website feature and an article in their print magazine
- $20,000 Google Adwords Credits
