The Scottish Startup Summit hits San Francisco

by Startacus Admin
If there’s one place that aspiring startups across the world would trade their right arm (and maybe a few fingers from their left) to go to it’s San Francisco. Home of the Golden Gate bridge, this city in northern California is also often a ‘golden gateway’ (sincere apologies) where eager and ambitious startups flock in the hope of turning their business into the next runaway success.
Great news now then for young Scottish startups as entrepreneurial events organiser “We are the Future” announce an all expenses paid trip for 5 budding business owners to travel to San Francisco to attend “The Scottish Startup Summit” which is being held in the city this July. But before you begin hunting for your passport, here’s a few of the important details.
What is the Scottish Startup Summit?
The Scottish Startup Summit in San Francisco is a much anticipated leg of “The Scottish Startup World Tour” a two year long not-for-profit programme which is running inspiring entrepreneurial events across 6 countries. As you may have guessed, the San Francisco calendar of events is aimed at further strengthening the strong US/Scottish startup links which exist and give entrepreneurs on both sides of the pond the opportunity to share ideas and inspire each other.
What does the trip include?
The precise schedule of the week long trip is yet to be revealed, but a little bird has let us in on these details;
- All flights and accommodation paid for by the good folks at ‘We are the Future’
- The young entrepreneurs will have the opportunity to take part in a jam-packed week of events and meet-ups
- There will be meetings with business leaders and venture capitalists including big players within Apple, HP, Ebay and AirBnB.
- The opportunity to meet some of the most innovative startups the US has to offer
- A place in the “The Scottish Startup Summit” which will form the backdrop of the week
Who can apply?
‘We are the Future’ want to make sure that they take only the very best examples of young Scottish entrepreneurship, so as you would expect there are a couple of important provisos;
- Businesses must be actively trading for less than 18 months (by July 26th)
- The applicant for each business must be under 30 years old (again by July 26th)
- The business must be based in Scotland (in other words you must be working primarily in Scotland)
- They only allow for one application per business
How to apply
You will be delighted (and also rather surprised) to learn that the application process is about as straightforward as they come. All you need to do in order to be in with a chance to win this incredible prize is submit a 30 second video answering the question “How would you benefit from attending the ‘Scottish Start-Up Summit in San Francisco’?”.
From these submissions a short-list of 18 will be invited to deliver a 5 minute presentation to a selection panel explaining in more detail how the trip would benefit their business.
Be sure to hunt out those proverbial skates though as the closing date for applications is 28th of April at 1pm!
Check out the San Francisco Summit website for more info and good luck!
