The power of a little social media to make a big impression - The Obermutten Village

by Startacus Admin
With a population of 79, how did the Swiss village of Obermutten, get a global Facebook following of over 18,000?
It is simple concept, the ‘like’ button on Facebook. But the village of Obermutton took the concept that one step further, promising each ‘like’ that their profile pics, would appear on the town's bulletin board!
Within months the whole village, and every space available was covered in profile pics, and this idyllic Swiss village went from “Ober-who?” to a fan base of over 18,000 and an active tourism industry that some large towns and cities would die for!
However like many social media campaigns, a marketing plan and a marketing agency had been in place to start the ball rolling from the very beginning.
Now Obermutten is at it again, with a campaign to open a museum of gifts they receive from ‘fans’ from around the Globe.
Check out this short video below for a bit of a giggle, but remember Obermutten, when you see the next ‘viral’ campaign go global - there’s not too many cuddly, little campaigns that happen by accident, it’s just getting that campaign to work in the first place that counts.
Also if you need some help with your own social media plans, take a look at our Twitter for Business, Linkedin for Business, Pinterest for Business andGoogle+ the basics articles...
