The Nokia Asha Developer Competition

by Startacus Admin
If you’re an app developer, making your mark on the world and getting your app noticed isn’t necessarily the easiest thing to do, so it’s always good to hear about initiatives and projects that are helping app developers do just that. The latest of these has just been launched by those stalwarts of the telecoms world, Nokia.Their recently launched Asha Developer Competition is looking for app developers to use their skills and ingenuity to create new and exciting apps for their range of Nokia Asha Full Touch smartphones. All entries must obviously be designed to run on the Asha Touch phones and should ideally use at least one of Nokia’s monetization methods such as in-app purchasing or the Nokia Ad Exchange (NAX). Apart from that, Apps can be developed for one of the following four categories:
- music and entertainment
- games
- utilities and productivity
- news and information
There’ll also be additional prizes of €10,000 each for the Best Web App, Best New Idea and Best User Experience.
Of course it’s not all about the money - winning apps will also get free promotion from Nokia - something that surely would be invaluable to any developer.
Like the sound of all that? Well, if you’re in the UK there’s even more to like! Nokia are offering all UK entrants the chance to win an additional £1000 cash prize and a free phone for the best UK app in any category. Incidentally there is also a draw where all UK entries will get the chance to win various prizes including £500 cash, a Lumia 720, promotion time from Nokia for their app and shopping vouchers.
One final note - you’ll find more details on the comp over at the Nokia Developer site where you can also register to enter. With all entries needing to be in by June 30th 2013, you’d best do that now, if you’re thinking about entering. If you do...best of luck!
