The Make Works Tour

by Startacus Admin
If you’re a Scottish based designer, artist or maker, you’re going to love this innovative initiative from the inspirational design company, Make Works.
Fi Scott and Vana Coleman, the design duo behind Make Works are spending this summer going on a 3 month tour of Scotland where they aim to find and visit 180 Scottish factories, makers, foundries, workshops and small businesses.
Travelling around in their 1979 VW Campervan these two inspiring creatives are planning to discover and film the people, tools and machines that can enable designers, artists and entrepreneurs create their work in Scotland.
Whether they’re engaging with small manufacturing set-ups, wood suppliers or people with equipment to rent out or skills to share, the key purpose of the Make Works tour is the same - to help make new connections between design and industry and thereby help strengthen the creative industries throughout the country.
The tour will be fully documented with short films being made at every place they visit highlighting everything from the processes that each maker or manufacturer is using through to the skills that they have. The aim then is to create a video library and directory service which will become a practical and useful resource for any Scottish based creative practitioner who wants to make and manufacture their work locally.
Full details of the tour and the planned stops can be found on the Make Works site and even if you’re not in Scotland, you can still follow the progress via their blog and social media sites.
We like the sound of this tour and its mission. Lots. And as for the VW Campervan? To say we are just a tad envious of spending 3 months in beautiful Scotland in it would be an understatement!
Best of luck Fi and Vana. We shall follow your tour from afar!
