The Citymapper Smartbus sounds just the ticket for the smart city era

by Startacus Admin
Tech Startup Citymapper have a bold ambition to reinvent the bus for the smart city era. If this article sounds just the ticket, then read on…

Yesterday, Citymapper (more on them in a min) unveiled their big new project, codenamed ‘Project Grasshopper’.
They are looking to run a (smarter) bus service
Citmapper are looking to reinvent the entire software stack for running and operating a bus, with the goal that smarter buses lead to better city mobility. Citymapper want to ‘rethink’ how buses and routes operate and how to make them more efficient and useful in cities.
Their protoptype / beta service launches this week, and on their pop-up route (should it be pop-on? route) they will run their tester service around Blackfriars and Waterloo bridge in London.
Seeing as Citymapper are fundamentally an App company, there’s a few technology implementations in version 1.0 of the Citymapper ‘beta’ bus.
-
They've added in a smart display that tells passengers where they are and what’s coming next - tick
-
They have USB charging for smartphones - nice
-
The bus has tracking software for real time integration with the Citymapper app, passenger counting, and a driver app - tick
-
They’ve built loads of software for everything, including realtime operational control to driver management to scheduling systems - sounds the plan
If you want to read all the details on the Citymapper bus initiative we suggest you head on over to their respective Medium blog post to find out more about the project and why they are looking to do just this. Good luck Citymapper on your inaugral bus service and we look forward to hearing more about 'Project Grasshopper' over the coming months.
As promised, more on Citymapper...
