The Chatbot coach for people living with chronic bowel disease

by Startacus Admin
Nori Health is a HealthTech startup that's created a digital lifestyle chatbot coach for those living with chronic bowel disease

This in itself can be exhausting, and often people don’t stop to think about the mental health aspect of living with a chronic condition or even the day to day questions and musings that occur which may seem too small and insignificant to bother your doctor with. With over 50% of all adults living with a chronic disease and a huge 90% of these saying that there is not enough support for them between doctor appointments, this is more of an issue than ever.
Amsterdam-based health-tech startup Nori Health have developed a ‘chatbot’ lifestyle coach for people living with Crohn’s Disease, Colitis, and Irritable Bowel Syndrome, conditions that affect 3.4 million people in Europe alone.
Nori will talk to you about various topics for keeping yourself healthy, such as nutrition, your medication, stress levels, and mental support. Nori will ask you questions about your condition, how it applies to you specifically, and what triggers it, as well as learning your behaviour. Because she is a computer driven by machine learning, the more you and other users talk to her, the more she learns and the smarter she becomes. And if you need to speak to a human instead, there is always the option to connect with Nori Health’s team and the click of a button.
Nori is still being tested, but early 2019 test group participants reported an increase in the ease of daily management of their condition - including diet, hydration, and taking medication correctly - as well as an improved social life.
Nori Health was founded in 2017 with the backing of an EU Horizon 2020 grant, and has recently raised €600k in pre-seed funding. This is being used for business development and to bring Nori to market in the Netherlands and the UK by the end of this year. A second trial will be run soon, followed by a live pilot running a ready-for-market version of Nori for early adopters to try before it finally launches.
Chronic conditions are often silent, invisible, and misunderstood, which only adds to the difficulty of living with them and managing them. We are pleased to see a startup focused on making life easier for those living with IBD, and look forward to seeing where it goes next.
