The Boxsmall Project

by Startacus Admin
The pop-up phenomenon seems to be here to stay - whether it’s a pop-up shop giving an independent creative the chance at running their own retail outlet or the pop-up gallery where artists and artisans alike can showcase their wares - and that’s surely no bad thing. The whole notion of providing a place for people to be enterprising and creative is pretty close to our hearts here at Startacus. So when we hear about projects and places and people who are helping enable or facilitate just that, we feel duty bound to let you folk know about them too!
The latest such project is Boxsmall, which is part of a new and innovative space being created by NEST Events in Edinburgh. In essence, Boxsmall is a series of cubic micro-stores which will allow some of the best Scottish products - from local food through to crafts and design - to be showcased in a new contemporary setting. Based on the roof of Princes Mall, adjacent to Princes Street, this ‘pop-up market’ will take place between 22nd July - 19th August 2013.
The boxes themselves are pretty unique spaces and can be customized to suit each stall holders’ needs or requirements. With individual compartments to showcase products and doors which also serve as display cabinets, each unit is a perfect self contained space where goods can be shown off to their best advantage. Add to that the fact that they can be locked and secured overnight and the fact that they are in one of the best areas to capture the tourist and family market and you can see why Boxsmall is such a great idea.
And speaking of ideas, that’s exactly what the team behind Boxsmall are looking for. There is currently an open call for independent creatives and traders to take part. Anyone interested in getting involved should email info@mucklehen.com before May 30th and take it from there!
Such a great idea and such a great use of space! In fact, take a look at this short video that will give you an even better insight into Boxsmall.
