THE BIG DRAW- A festival that's really drawing in the crowds

by Startacus Admin
We would be the first to admit that our artistic prowess leaves a little to be desired...Picasso's crown is certainly safe for the time being. Those of you who frequent the Startacus Facebook page will no doubt be familiar with our...er...unique doodles and other inspirational scribblings. Although we are in no danger of winning the Turner prize any time soon, we thoroughly enjoy our artistic adventures and will continue to do so so long as we have a piece of paper and the use of our arms.
At Startacus we love anything that encourages people to be creative and inventive as it’s these qualities which help ambitious people to come up with great ideas and turn them into successful businesses. A few weeks ago we did a little feature on Bad Drawings of my Daily Life which really inspired us to keep doodling, regardless of our ability and we thought to ourselves `is there anything out there that encourages people to draw on a grander scale?` Here's what we found.
THE BIG DRAW (I understand the capitals are essential) is the biggest drawing festival in the world which spans across no less than 16 countries with over 200,000 participants expected to take part this year. It’s a unique festival which has, since its conception in 2000, been encouraging people of all ages and abilities to take up a pen, pencil, chalk, paint brush or any other suitable implement and draw something.
It’s organised by the charity Campaign for Drawing and hopes to encourage people to draw and experience the social, educational and creative benefits it can bring as well as helping people to simply have a great time. There will be hundreds of exciting family friendly events up and down the country during the month of October with an incredible range of subjects, from frogs and lizards at the Manchester Museum to all things magical at Edinburgh's “Big Halloween Draw” there's sure to be something to get those creative juices flowing.
Check out THE BIG DRAW website to see what events will be taking place in your area, or if you are feeling particularly inspired why not start your own? The Big Draw is always looking to spread its influence as far as possible, you'll find all the information you need and plenty of inspiration on the website.
If you enjoyed our preview on this year's THE BIG DRAW you may also want to check out our preview of last years The Big Draw and also our feature on The Stendhal Festival of Music and Art, another growing festival which encourages people to engage with arts and culture. If you like what you see here on Startacus, why not become a member of our growing community?
