The Best Industries for Those Aiming for Self-Employment
by Startacus Admin
If you're thinking about self-employment and working for yourself, here are a few of the sectors that might be worth considering
There are some people out there who are just not made for working in an office for other people. If you think that you will want to be your own boss, there are several industries that you can ultimately aim for. Here are some of the areas that you should think about.
Web Design
If you know how to create stunning websites, working on a self-employed basis might be best for you. People can reach out to you as needed and you will be able to set up your working day how you best choose. Web design is intricate but much of it can ultimately be handled by just one professional. With businesses always needing a high-quality website or even updates to existing ones, you can be certain that there will always be some form of income for you to find.
Accounting
Every business will need to have an accountant. This is a crucial job that must be done correctly so people know exactly how their business’s finances are. While big corporations have in-house accountants, smaller businesses often outsource to self-employed accountants. Working smart and with relevant accounting programs like BTC accounting software and Receipt Bank for the likes of recording clients expenses, it is possible to create a reasonably lean but very effective accountancy operation.
Photography
The photography industry is massive, and you always need to make sure that you know which branch you fit in. For example, a landscape photographer might not be able to snap a wedding, while the average fashion photographer also can’t try their hand at wildlife photography. Each one has a very precise set of skills and knowledge, but this can also result in some amazing avenues if you are willing to try them. Therefore, it is often best for photographers to be self-employed. They can set their own schedules and decide where they wish to travel for work. People often choose photography for the freedom it brings, so it is important to explore it as much as possible.
Writing
Freelance copywriting and journalism are two massive industries with a lot of crossover. If you have a way with words, you might want to look into some of the opportunities out there for writers. Many websites allow you to submit articles to them and if they are published you might get a small fee. This is a great way to build up a good portfolio of work that could land you higher clientele and even more work. Whether you wish to aim more towards journalism and creating think-pieces with the potential to go viral, or you want to lean towards copywriting and working alongside top brands, there are plenty of avenues to explore.
Fitness
If you are dreaming of creating your own health and fitness empire, you will find your goals that bit more achievable if you are working for yourself instead of at a gym. Many gyms nowadays accept rent so you have a great place to train your clients. The best thing about being a personal trainer is that you can tailor your expertise to match any of the goals potential clients might have. You could set yourself up as a coach for bodybuilding competitions, or you could work with people who need physiotherapy. This can be a really fulfilling career and choosing to be self-employed is often the first step to success.
These are just five industries that you should look into if you are aiming to become self-employed. If you feel like you work best on your own and not under someone else, it could prove to be one of the best career moves you could make.
