The Ben & Jerry's Join our Core Competition

by Startacus Admin
Ben & Jerry’s might be known primarily for their rather fine ice creams, but since they launched over 30 years ago, they’ve done their fair share at trying to develop and promote social businesses too. When they launched they set out to create a business that had a product as well as an economic and social mission and they’ve certainly achieved their goals. In keeping with this social mission, they are always launching projects and initiatives to encourage other people to do the same - to create something that can make a real difference in their communities. The latest such initiative is the Join our Core competition. With just over 2 weeks left to enter, we thought we’d give it a little plug. Here’s the lowdown:
What are they looking for?
In a nutshell, they are looking for new business ideas which are financially sustainable and have a positive social and environmental impact. Coupled with that, the business product or service ought to be wholly innovative and very different from existing or similar initiatives or ventures.
Who can enter?
Well, anyone aged between 18 - 34 is eligible to enter, provided they live in the UK, Ireland, Denmark, Sweden, Finland, Germany, Austria, Switzerland or the Netherlands. And of course, they must also be looking to build and develop a new sustainable business!
What can be won?
Firstly, there won’t be just one winner - there’ll be nine of them! The prizes as you’d expect are pretty unique. Each winner will receive:
- the awesome prize of their business being featured on a Ben & Jerry’s flavour in 2014!
- €10,000 Judges Cup Prize
- a Trip to the Ben & Jerry’s HQ in Vermont
- 6 months business mentoring courtesy of Ashoka
It’s all pretty cool (*groan) don’t you think?
How to Enter?
Entering the Join our Core Comp couldn’t be easier - simply complete the application on their site before 5 pm GMT on 3rd May 2013 and cross your fingers until the end of the month when the finalists will be announced.
Here are the guys themselves telling you all about what it means to them...
