Technically Compatible aims to find you the best IT talent

On the heels of our article about Pip, the handheld device that encourages children to learn coding, we have another programming-related startup to share.
When children are inspired to learn coding and discover a passion for it, they may very well grow up wanting to code for a living. Knowing how to code and actually being good at coding - good enough to work in a company as a programmer - are two different things, however.
Experience and references are the preferred method of working out whether a candidate is worth an interview or not, but this isn’t ideal; especially in an area where the need for skilled workers is increasingly greater than the pool of skilled workers to choose from. Businesses increasingly find this method less useful and want to hire fresh talent almost as much as proven, experienced talent. This is where it becomes harder to assess whether the candidate is as ideal as they may portray themselves.
Sunderland-based Technically Compatible aims to ward off unsuitable candidates and highlight the best talent applying for your job opening.
This can be done through easily-created tests. Even people who are not particularly technically skilled themselves can create an assessment tailored to your businesses needs, covering over 120 technologies and 27 languages - which can be assigned from ‘nice to have’ to ‘essential’ skills. Creators can choose from over 10,000 questions and auto-marked code challenges and add their own questions. The system’s reporting will show you the candidate’s skill as well as give an insight into their personal approach to problems. You can even watch a playback of their coding to see how they went about it, how many times they made a mistake before coming to the right bit of code and, crucially, whether they pasted in code from elsewhere. Nice.
In short, Technically Compatible makes it quicker, easier, and more accurate to screen candidates and identify the best hire possible. In such a growing industry, with a less than ideal pool of unemployed talent, we think this system will become invaluable to many.
