TAPiTAG - more than a business card

The lowdown on Athlone-based startup TAPiTAG and its sustainable NFC-enabled solution for connecting, networking and sharing contact details.

/tapitag imagMost businesspeople are supposed to have a pocketful of business cards to hand out to everyone they meet in order for that person to have something to screw up and throw in the bin when they get home, or shove into their designated business-cards-I’ll-never-look-at-again drawer with all the others. Most businesspeople, when asked for their business card, pat all of their pockets and realise they didn’t bring one with them on the one occasion someone actually wants one. And then our phone number or job title changes…

Athlone-based startup TAPiTAG is looking to change the way we exchange details and do away with single-use business cards. The TAPiTAG card is an NFC-enabled, durable card that you simply tap against the person’s phone and all of your details will be added to it. Granted, you’ll have to explain it to them, wait for them to download the app, and remind them how to turn on NFC, but in the long run it saves time, money, and waste, and means that they can’t throw the business card away on a whim and then regret it later when they encounter a reason to get in touch. Because they are linked to your TAPiTAG profile, they will always have your most up to date information, so it doesn’t matter if you change phone number, location, or even job.

tapitag cardsTAPiTAG isn’t confined to only business cards. Other products on offer by the startup include phone tags, tags for your pets’ collars, and retail products that allow a customer to quickly find all of the retailer’s details and social media. One example TAPiTAG uses on their website is of an estate agent who can put a TAPiTAG into their houses, and tapping on it will bring users straight to that house’s page on their website.

Because these aren’t single-use, you can go fancier, with a card made of metal, wood, or PVC, without worrying about issues of sustainability; just using TAPiTAG is already more environmentally friendly than printing hundreds of paper business cards. On top of this, for every card sale made, they plant a tree in partnership with another great startup we have written about, Ecologi.
