Tangle - remote collaboration that's actually fun

by Startacus Admin
Remote collaboration doesn't need to be dull and boring. Tangle enables teams to work, play, and exist together in a spontaneous and organic way.
Have you ever had a friend or colleague on the other end of Windows Messenger (in the old days) or Skype or even just WhatsApp to whom you can just send a message every now and then throughout the day, and basically chat as though they were in the same room? Especially in the current work-from-home environment, this can be a nice way of feeling like you’re not completely on your own. Something like Slack is okay for a team-wide chat room, but what about something that kicks it up another notch and helps with not only a more human interaction with your colleagues, but is also designed for collaboration at the same time?
Boston-based...and Vancouver-based, and Toronto- and LA-based (they’re an entirely remote company) videogame studio absurd:joy has created such a collaborative platform - Tangle - having decided that they needed one for their remote game development that did more for them than things like Zoom and the like.
Tangle is set up in a unique way, in which everyone has their own ‘office’, with a door that can be open or closed, depending one whether that person is available for others to drop in or not. Each office is live-streamed to the platform, so you can stare at each other and judge each other’s wardrobe. Of course, if you’re shy or wearing your dead sea face mask, you can switch on a customisable, camera-tracked avatar that is basically an animated cartoon version of you that does whatever you are doing. So don’t turn it on to privately pick your nose.
All expected collaboration tools are available in the very visual dashboard of Tangle, as well as many more (and less expected), from document and image sharing, to pinned notes, meeting rooms, shared YouTube watching, group editing in the tools you already use, and the coffee-shop-esque sound of chatter from all of the rooms (the volume of which can be changed) to make you feel like you are part of a busy office.
Over the 9 months that they have been in closed beta, the company has raised €4.5 million in seed funding to help bring the collaboration tool originally created just for their team to the wider market of workers ready for a more spontaneous and organic method of remote collaboration.
Remote working and collaboration will incidentally be on the radar at our upcoming Work: In Progress event. We'd love you to join us!
