Synap - the app to help you study

by Startacus Admin
The human brain, powerful though it may be, forgets up to 40% of information just 20 minutes after we have learned it.
After one week, this becomes 80%. This makes study and revision frustrating and leaves you with the sense that all the time you’ve spent doing just that has been wasted. Worse still, it can leave a student feeling as though they have somehow failed if they don’t come away from a study session knowing their subject off by heart.
Leeds-based Synap is an EdTech startup aimed at making studying for exams more effective and efficient.
Synap allows you to create multiple choice quizzes, saving them for use in your study sessions later on, and sharing them with other Synap users. Teachers can create private classrooms within Synap to share quizzes directly with their students, which makes the feedback system more useful, allowing them to provide explanations, elaboration, links to external sources, etc. Synap is intelligent and personalises your experience, recommending other quizzes for you try once it has learned more about what you are studying, and how you are doing in the quizzes you are already using.
The Synap app and website platform incorporate techniques such as Active Elaboration, Spaced Repetition and Interleaved Practice, the results of research into how memories are strengthened and reinforced.
Recently, Synap won the Leeds heat of Tech North’s Northern Stars 2017 pitch competition, taking them through the the grand final in November. The winner of this final will receive all sorts, including access to media training, pitch training, investor networking events, tech events and awards, and more.
Anything that helps make study and revision a little less stressful and frustrating, and a little more effective, is well worth the £2.99 a month in our opinion!
