SwimAR aims to make a splash in the sport tech sector

SwimAR, a lightweight, hydrodynamic training device using augmented reality that attaches to normal swimming goggles.
In keeping with our recent uptick in coverage of virtual reality and augmented reality startups, today we’re going swimming. With augmented reality.
Swimmers in training need to know their swim data to know what they need to improve on, what their strengths and weaknesses are, and other swimmerly things that athletic people like us totally understand. Being able to do so without pausing and slipping out of focus, out of ‘the zone’, would be of great benefit and allow the swimmer to really concentrate on shaving off those split seconds.
London-based The Imagination Factory thinks the same thing, and so they developed SwimAR, a lightweight, hydrodynamic training device that attaches to normal swimming goggles.
SwimAR, as the same suggests, uses augmented reality, showing a holographic display as you swim without getting in the way or causing eye strain. Powered by Sony SmartEyeglass, the display shows useful information such as a clock, distance travelled, time passed, split, and a countdown to start. From serious amateurs to triathletes and competitive swimmers, anyone who is in the pool on average 2-6 times a week and trains throughout the year, often covering 50km a month in-season, SwimAR was designed for you and can help cut down those times.
In July 2018, SwimAR was selected to join a cohort of 10 start-ups to join an exclusive programme run by Digital Catapult, including valuable masterclasses on preparing for investment, building scalable business models, and routes to market. In July this year, they were selected as one of 50 businesses in the Createch "Ones to Watch".
They’re on our ones to watch list too, and we’ll be watching where they go from here as they continue to make a splash!
