SureWash provides Hand Hygiene innovation

Hand hygiene training made easy thanks to this MedTech innovation
The current COVID-19 pandemic means that we are having to learn something that those of us outside of medical and food-related professions probably never thought that we would really need to: how to properly wash our hands.
Yes, we wash our hands after going to the bathroom or before making food, etc., but how to really wash them in a systematic, thoroughly thorough way, as though we’re about to go into surgery, is not something the majority of us thought we’d ever need to know. But it is, of course, incredibly important. The soap you use breaks up the fat that holds the virus together, and that combined with not coughing on each other will go a long way to helping get a handle on the pandemic, small and simple though it may seem.
Dublin-based, Trinity College spinout SureWash was actually created 10 years ago to help health workers to memorise the World Health Organisation’s method of hand washing, which ensures every part of your hands are cleaned.
SureWash is now launching its app to the public, for obvious reasons. The app uses interactive software that takes advantage of your device’s camera to watch you wash your hands and give feedback in real-time.
The idea is to not only catch mistakes as you are making them, but to help you quickly build muscle memory so that this technique becomes automatic every time you wash your hands.
Because hand washing is not something that really builds enthusiasm, the app uses gamification to make it a little more interesting and rewarding (just in case literally saving lives isn’t enough incentive for you).
With the WHO estimating that a huge 50% of infections could be prevented simply with better hand-hygiene, an app that helps people to properly understand how to achieve this is crucial in this time of global pandemic.
