Stuck in a Rut? Try These 4 Hobbies!

by Startacus Admin

Stuck in a Rut? Perhaps one of these four hobbies, two you might be able to do right now under lockdown and two that you might have to wait awhile to try, may offer you some real inspiration.
It’s easy to feel that you are starting to get stuck in a rut, like you’re just trying to make it through the day by checking things off your to-do list and not really living. If you feel like you need something new and fresh to shake up your mind and get your passion rolling, then why not try to plan for after social isolation and consider one of these 4 hobbies.
Paintballing
If you’re able to be out in the great outdoors but hobbies like walking, hiking and cycling don’t appeal to you, then why not try out paintballing? Needing more than just fitness to keep yourself in the game, paintballing is a hobby that requires no small measure of strategic thinking and teamwork but, when played with a group of people of similar skill levels, it can be highly rewarding and lots of fun.
The best thing about paintballing is that if you just want to try it out, there are plenty of places that can offer you an afternoon of paintballing for a decent price. So, you don’t need to go out and buy a bunch of fancy gear in order to get going. There are also numerous health benefits to taking up paintballing, so why not give it a shot the next time you’re looking to spice up your life?
Water Sports
Water activities are great if you’re looking for a hobby that will help you get fit but aren’t as hard on your body as contact sports like football. Being in the water, be it fresh or seawater, can be very relaxing and there are many different kinds of water sports that are available for a range of budgets. From swimming to snorkeling to taking a relaxing kayak ride on your local river, water sports come in many shapes and sizes and for fitness levels ranging from couch potato to gym bunny. So, why not take to your local dam or ocean and give one of them a try?
Radio Controlled Vehicles
When you think of radio-controlled (or RC) vehicles, things like buggies and cars come to mind. However, there is a new player in the game that has taken the hobby to new heights. RC drone racing has been described as the sport of the future. Drone racecourses come in many different layouts, with some focused on throwing obstacles like gates, ladders, hoops, and towers at competitors while others feature sharp turns to test the maneuverability of the racers, and others focus simply on speed.
Before you take your first flight with an RC drone, be sure to check in with your local authority to find out what restrictions or rules are in place for flying drones in your area, especially if your drone is capable of capturing video.
Gaming and eSports
What if the great outdoors isn’t really your thing? Well, why not try out one of the more modern hobbies that are taking the world by storm? We’re talking about gaming and its elite big-brother, eSports. Video gaming has seen a huge shift in the past ten years in terms of accessibility, with many more people able to break through the cost barrier of owning a console or desktop PC capable of gaming. There has also been a shift in the mindset of people with the stigma of being a gamer slowly lifting as it becomes more mainstream. From battle-royale style games like Fortnite, which is available on all platforms, to PC-exclusive multiplayer online battle arena games like Dota 2 and League of Legends, there is a game out there for everyone and an eSports league to follow for all tastes.
Whichever hobby you decide to take up (now in a post-covid future), make sure you do adequate research on it beforehand, respect the rules of health and safety and choose something you have a real interest in - or you’ll just be wasting your own time.
