Streetbees - the human intelligence platform that reveals how people behave, and why

by Startacus Admin
Streetbees is a global intelligence platform that reveals how people behave, and why, by analysing real-life moments collected from its users
Every business benefits from consumer research, understanding what their customers do and think, when and why they do and think it, and seeing what can be done to harness this knowledge to reel in more customers.
To this end, billions are spent every year in attempts to gain actionable customer insights; however, there is only so far basic surveys and test groups can get you. This is, as usual, where disruptive startups come in.
London, Lisbon, and US-based Streetbees is one such startup. They are combining artificial intelligence and machine learning with information provided directly by customers all around the world, in their own words.
This means not providing multiple choice questions or “On a scale of 1-10” questions, but rather asking a question and allowing the customer to answer in whatever way they want to answer. The AI then looks at that answer and extracts hidden meanings in the words.

The example that Streetbees gives is an answer to the question “How are you feeling right now?” while the customer is drinking a cup of tea. The answer talks about how the customer used to drink tea with their brother, whom they haven’t seen for months, the AI detects in this statement a sense of loneliness, thus extracting insights from the customer’s natural and full response and comparing to others to detect patterns. Data like this has already led to major brands changing their entire marketing strategy.
The ‘Bees’ around the world can be paid around $3 for each task requested of them (making a cup of tea and answering a question about how they feel, for example) but can earn no more than $10 per month, so it is not the promise of additional income that draws people to share with the startup and their partners. This is, the startup claims, to ensure responses are honest and representative, not forced in order to make money.
In October, Streetbees announced that it had raised a European Series B funding round of $40m, led by VC company Lakestar.
