Startup World Cup to kick-start a NI Startup towards global grand final

by Startacus Admin

Heads up! The Startup World Cup is coming to Belfast and offers the chance for one NI startup to pitch for a $1m investment prize in San Francisco.
The NI regional pitch heat, (happening at the fab looking Ormeau Baths in Belfast on the 16th Jan '18) will see which of NI emerging tech startups will secure a place in the grand final and get one step closer to winning a $1m investment prize in San Francisco.
Organised by Fenox Venture Capital, the global Startup World Cup is an event with a goal of launching and advising the world's next wave of leading entrepreneurs. The Startup World Cup winner can expect to further accelerate their idea, and gain a rather impressive 1 million USD in funding, plus all the global recognition you'd expect to bag.
The NI leg has been brought to the Belfast by The Belfast Shapers, a collective of creative and innovative thinkers and change-makers from Northern Ireland who are committed to designing solutions to prepare our community for the future. The NI event will see 10 – 15 businesses pitching to a judging panel of local experts, with one emerging technology startup securing a place in the grand final, which will take place on 11th May 2018 in San Francisco.
Orla McGreevy, Belfast Shaper and Senior Business Development Executive at 4c Executive, shared “We are incredibly excited to bring this investment event to Northern Ireland. The scope is tremendous for our local entrepreneurs in that Fenox won’t rule any business out based on turnover, years trading or staff levels, what they’re really looking for is scalability and a disruptive business that can truly benefit from the $1m investment, plus an introduction to a first class network across America.”
Peter Edgar, Belfast Shaper, added ”Startup World Cup is one of the most exciting technology competitions in the world. Come January 2018, local businesses will get a chance to pitch for the chance to be flown to Silicon Valley and potentially secure cash funding and mentorship from Fenox VC”.
The 4 fab NI Judges will be:
Cathriona Hallahan – Managing Director, Microsoft Ireland
Helen Lennon – Founder and CEO Secure Broadcast
Tim Brundle – Director of Research & Impact at Ulster University
Tristan Watson – CEO of Ignite Accelerator
Applications to pitch at Startup World Cup Belfast are still open, but close on the 15th December, so get your skates on and apply if you want to pitch. Apply here.
Tickets to attend the Belfast event on the 16th January are free and can be booked here.
Good luck to all that apply!
