Startup World cup returns to Belfast for 2019

by Startacus Admin

The Startup World cup returns to Belfast for 2019 with the NI regionals held on 25 March and once again delivered by Belfast Global Shapers.
January of last year saw the Startup World Cup expand to include Belfast in its regionals. This month sees it return once again to give one NI startup the chance to win $1,000,000 investment.
The Startup World Cup is an American platform powered by Fenox Venture Capital that offers innovation and entrepreneurship opportunities for startup ecosystems around the world through startup conferences and competitions that bring together startups, VCs, and tech CEOs.
Regional pitch events are hosted around the world for startups to compete with each other, and the winner of each regional then goes to San Francisco on 17 May for the Grand Finale and a chance at that huge $1,000,000 investment prize. One million dollars...
The Belfast regionals will be held on 25 March and will once again be delivered by Belfast Global Shapers, a NI collective of creative and innovative thinkers and change-makers committed to designing solutions to prepare our community for the future.
Last year, 12 tech startups from around Northern Ireland pitched at the Belfast heat, and we’re expecting a similar number this year. Sponsors include Barclays Eagle Labs and headliner, Ulster University. Judges for the Belfast regionals this year will be:
Fiona McElroy - Head of Innovation & Impact at Ulster University
Daniel Anderson - Private Equity Director, Wirefox
Paul Hollway – Managing Partner, Kx Ventures
John Healy – Managing Director – Vice President, Allstate Northern Ireland
Last year’s NI regional winner was the excellent weight-loss tech startup Neurovalens, and while they didn’t win at the grand finale, CEO Jason McKeown strongly encourages local startups to get involved. He says of the 2018 final, “Just being involved with the competition added a significant amount of credibility to our company and really set Neurovalens on the global stage.”
