Startup Success - five award winning businesses started in the last year

Sometimes when you have a great idea, it’s not the idea that concerns you initially but the fear, uncertainty, and lack of knowledge on how to take that idea and make it a workable reality.
That wall is often too big a barrier for some people to leap. The visualisation of that idea becoming a reality is however possible, but the process of how you get from concept to practical reality is a tough nut to crack.
With this in mind, we wanted to show you what is possible within 12 months (give or take a few weeks here and there!) The 5 businesses below were all founded in Nov 2011 or later. Admittedly, the idea for each of the said businesses may have been around for months, or even years, however this is when each of the businesses started out on their actual business journeys.
Each of the 5 startups featured have been included in the startups.co.uk Startup100 list for 2012, so it just goes to show what it is possible to do in 12 months. Perhaps take a little inspiration yourself - who knows, maybe 12 months from now you can feature on the startups100 2013 list even if all you have right now is a really good idea for a business!

The Britpop Bakery - Founded November 2011
In 2011, the trend for Cake Pops had well and truly captured Jessica's imagination. However, she was hugely disappointed to discover that all of the current Cake Pop bakeries use Candy Melts and other funny substances to coat their cake pops. She wondered if it would be possible to create an all-natural, preferably Organic cake pop using pure chocolate as the outer coating.
After much trial and error and many testing sessions with some very kind and patient people, the recipe was finally perfected and The BritPop Bakery was launched! Today, Jessy still bakes and decorates each and every BritPop from her home kitchen.
A-Star Sports - Founded November 2011
A-Star Sports offers inclusive, developmental multi-sports coaching for children aged 2-10 years. Building on a fun ABC-based foundation (agility, balance and coordination), children are introduced to and develop the skills for ten core sports.
