Startup of theWeek - Labour Xchange

by Startacus Admin
Whilst flexible ad hoc work doesn’t suit everyone, there are times when it can be a perfect solution - both for employees and employers alike. However for both parties it’s not always easy to either find flexible employment opportunities or the flexible staff who can fill them. Until now that is. Our latest startup of the week is on a mission to do just that.
Labour Xchange is an online platform which aims to connect individuals with spare time who want to earn extra cash with businesses who every now and then need additional staff.
Here’s how it works:
If you are looking for work, simply create a Labour Xchange profile - as well as uploading a 20 second video, you select the type of work you are looking for, where you’re based and also when you are free to work.
Then it’s a matter of seeing what work you get offered, accepting said work, doing the job and getting paid.
No need to send countless CVs and never hear anything back. With Labour Xchange, the opportunities come to you.
In essence, employers who register on the platform, create a business profile and outline when they need ad hoc staff. Whether it’s for a one off weekend shift or to cover seasonal upturns in demand - the outcome is the same. Labour Xchange will identify the “best match” candidates who can fulfil those ad hoc staffing requirements and then it’s simply a matter of the employer selecting who they would like to hire.
All employers must commit to paying staff at least £10 an hour for any shifts they undertake and the entire booking process takes place via the platform.
It’s much more straightforward than posting a job ad and waiting for candidates to apply. With Labour Xchange the candidates are already there and able to work at the times required.
Whilst nothing is charged to the employee, an admin fee is charged to the employer and 15% of profits generated are donated to Labour Xchange’s charity partners.
Labour Xchange is not a job board, it’s not an agency - it’s simply a platform that wants to “make work, work for everyone”.
We hope this Tech For Good startup succeeds in this most admirable of missions.
