Startup of the Week - YoungPlanet

by Startacus Admin
YoungPlanet is an app that "enables parents to put no longer used children’s things to good use with new families and away from landfill, for free".
With Spring firmly on its way, many of us will be turning our attention to spring cleaning and decluttering. And if you've got children there'll no doubt be lots of things that are taking up space that they've either outgrown or no longer use. Last year's much-coveted toy may no longer hold any appeal!
Recognising that there is so much potential waste caused by this issue and the fact that so much ends up in landfill, our latest startup of the week has created an interesting solution.
YoungPlanet is a platform and app designed to ‘turn the stuff you don’t need into the things that others enjoy’...
Unlike many other marketplace-type platforms, this is an entirely cashless platform.
Here's how it works:
Users can either list their unwanted items on the app - everything from toys and books to clothes - or alternatively search for items that they want or may need.
They can message each other and arrange collection - whether that's in-person or via the post or a courier service.
In addition to the giving and receiving element, the platform and app provide a way for parents to connect and meet others in their community.
At the moment, YoungPlanet is focused mainly in London and a few other areas, however they are currently crowdfunding in a bid to scale the business and expand their offering.
It's a case of watch this space!
