Startup of the Week - Whirli

by Startacus Admin
Whirli is an innovative toy subscription service providing you with access to a huge ever-changing toy box
Let’s face it - most of us are trying to think more about sustainability when we’re buying things these days. However with some purchases, it’s not always that easy - like children’s toys, for example. Your child might have yearned for a particular toy but then they somewhat lose interest once they’ve played with it for a while. And, of course, kids grow up so toys can both quickly and naturally lose their appeal too!
It might only be a few weeks since Christmas but if there are already-abandoned toys lying around your home, then our latest startup of the week, might be well worth you checking out!
Whirli is an innovative toy subscription service for you and your kids!
Register for the service and choose from one of four subscription options - ranging from the Toy Sack option costing £9.99 per month through to the Toy Chest option costing £29.99 per month.
Your subscription will give you a Token allowance which you can spend on toys from the Whirli library. Here’s how it works - 1 Whirli Token equals £1 retail price, so for example, a toy worth £20 at retail will cost you 20 Tokens. You can choose whichever toys you’d like, provided it is within your Token allowance.
The toys will then be sent out and your kids can play with them for as long as they like!
If and when the novelty wears off or your child is no longer playing with a particular toy, you can simply send it back. The great thing is that when you do this, your account will be credited with equivalent Tokens, so you can swap them again for something else.
There are no penalties though if you’d like to keep a toy - in fact, once you have a toy for 8 months, your child can keep it forever!
With us all becoming more conscious of our consumption habits and with sustainability, rightfully becoming ever more prominent in our minds, we reckon that Whirli are onto a winner with this one. And having recently closed a £4M seed funding round, we’re not the only ones to think so!
Such a simple idea - toys that are borrowed, not bought…
