Our latest startup of the week is Whatbook, “a book discovery and social network app for readers, by readers”.
We all know the benefits of reading - from helping us to learn more through to the escapism that it offers. And studies have shown that it can be hugely beneficial for both our physical and mental health. So, whether you’re already an avid reader or one of your New Year’s resolutions is always to read more, our latest startup of the week ought to be right up your street.
Whatbook is “a book discovery and social network app for readers, by readers”. Their ultimate mission is to get people reading more but also to become the go-to platform for absolutely everything book-related.
Using Whatbook is easy. You can follow your friends or find other users with similar tastes to your own. You can make and receive book recommendations. And the good thing is of course that you can receive recommendations from people that you trust. You can therefore be more confident that you’ll actually like a book. Whatbook prioritises reviews from users that you follow. No need to worry about dodgy algorithms, fake reviews or promoted product placement!
You can also create your own virtual bookshelf, with books you’ve already read as well as your to-be-read pile.
Although Whatbook is a social media platform, or “social readia”platform as they call themselves, they’re actually proactively encouraging users to put down their phones and read more books. A pretty refreshing take for a digital platform and app, we think you’ll agree!
