Startup of the Week - StepJockey
by Startacus Admin
It’d be fair to say that these days we’re all pretty much used to food labels outlining the nutritional content of whatever we’re eating. Should we choose to pay attention, we can quite easily work out the calorie content of every meal we consume.
But what about the other side of things - how we burn calories. Figuring that out hasn’t always been as easy. And that’s exactly what our latest Startup of the Week is aiming to address.
StepJockey is a startup initiative which aims to label the world for calorie burn and encourage us all to take the stairs and shun the lift everywhere we go.
Here’s how it works:
Simply enter the address of any stairs that you would like to be rated for calorie burn. You only need to add in a few basic details about the stairs and StepJockey will calculate how many calories can be burned by climbing them. If your stairs have already been rated by someone else, you can simply view the calorie data already stored and download some fab free signs to display in that location.
For all stairs that have been rated you can use the free-to download signs or order some of the StepJockey acrylic signs - the sale of these signs is actually how these guys make their money, since everything else about this fab initiative is free!
StepJockey also has an app (currently iOS only) which you can use to track any of the stairs you’ve used and therefore track your calorie burning activities.
It’s early days yet, however by all accounts having a visual reminder of the importance of doing that extra bit of physical activity is certainly proving to have a truly positive effect.
This is one of those oh-so-simple ideas that you only wish you’d thought of isn’t it?
StepJockey - we’re lovin’ your work…
