Startup of the Week - School Space

by Startacus Admin
As we all know, financial challenges can be one of the biggest issues our schools have to face these days. Between budget cuts and lack of resources they certainly don’t have it easy. That however need not necessarily be the case, thanks to our latest startup of the week.
School Space is an innovative social enterprise which is focused on helping schools generate extra income from their existing
facilities.
Here’s how it works:
Schools simply add details of the space they would like to rent out on the School Place platform and then community groups can select a space that matches their needs. It might be a classroom, a sports hall or even a playground. What is key is that it is a space which is at that time not being utilised by the school.
The entire rental process is facilitated by the School Space platform - everything from the administration and invoicing through to the checking of insurance and health and safety.
In addition to helping schools from a financial perspective, what School Space is also doing is helping schools and community groups forge stronger links and partnerships with each other - something which ultimately would be of benefit to the entire community.
School Space have a clear mission - namely to “create thriving schools at the centre of thriving communities” - it may be a simple goal but it’s certainly a worthwhile one.
Right now School Space is mainly focusing on the Oxford and London areas, however there are plans in place to cover schools all across the country.
They’re one to watch - that’s for sure (We think they're class!)
