Startup of the Week - Promise or Pay

by Startacus Admin
Now that 2014 is well and truly underway, New Year and all those resolutions we made may seem a very long time ago. How many of us start the year with the best intentions and then gradually other things get in the way and it becomes harder and harder to stay disciplined and keep up the momentum.
Well...that need no longer be the case, thanks to our latest Startup of the Week.
Promise or Pay is an innovative new platform which aims to help motivate people to do those things that they most want to do with their lives whilst at the same time it helps create a new method for donating to charities.
The premise is quite simple.
You simply use the platform to make a promise of something that you are going to do - whether it’s get a new job or go on a mountain trek. In essence then you publicly pledge what you’re aiming to do.
Where it gets interesting is that what you next do is select one of Promise or Pay’s partner charities and you stipulate what you will pledge to them if you don’t keep to your original promise or pledge.
By declaring your intentions in such a public way, you are in a sense increasing your chances of remaining committed to them and thereby succeeding in your personal goals. The good thing though is that even if you don’t remain committed to those goals, you won’t actually have failed. You may not have achieved your initial objectives, but your charity pledge will ensure that you’ll have still helped deliver some social good. It’s a proper win-win situation.
Admittedly, there are lots of innovative platforms out there at the moment all aiming to help address social problems and have a real positive social impact. We reckon that where Promise or Pay succeeds, is in the fact that it is such a simple idea. One of those “Why didn’t I think of that?” ones…
Go check Promise or Pay out for yourself and remember - those pledges and promises can be made at any time - they’re not just meant for January 1st!
