Startup of the Week - Handiscover

by Startacus Admin
Handiscover - The startup that's on a mission to help people with disabilities find accessible holiday accommodation...

It can be easy to find accommodation in your preferred location and at your ideal budget, however identifying how accessible it is for your needs, can be a whole other matter.
It is for this very reason that our latest Startup of the Week has been created!
Handiscover is the “first community based holiday accommodation booking website, dedicated to people with special needs and disabilities”.
The website currently features over 23,000 properties in over 50 countries and each property listed is classified based on its accessibility (there are three levels of classification) - so you can clearly identify whether or not it would meet your own particular requirements.
Level 1 is accommodation suitable for people who can walk and who can cope with a maximum of 15 steps. Level 2 on the other hand is accommodation suitable for people who can only handle one step at a time and Level 3 is fully accessible accommodation - this is suitable for wheelchair users and features properties with everything from accessible bathrooms and toilets through to wide door widths.Since there is no universal method of classifying the accessibility of a property, Handiscover’s unique way of doing this is ideal enabling its users to fully determine the suitability of a property from the perspective of their own mobility requirements.
If you have a suitable property, you can also choose to register it on the platform and thereby become a property host.
Bookings can be made directly via the site but money is not transferred to the property host for 24 hours - to make sure guests are actually happy with the accommodation and to give them time to get any issues or problems sorted.
We love what Handiscover has created with this platform and since they have just raised $700k from investors to help with the future development and growth, it is clear that we are not alone!
It is certainly one to watch.
