Startup of the Week - Fat Lama

by Startacus Admin
We’ve probably all been there at one point or another. Ever had to buy something even though you knew you would probably only use it once? And been wishing in vain that you could just borrow one instead?
Us too.
Whether it’s a tent for that one-off camping trip or a power washer to finally clean the patio - it can be pretty frustrating to have to spend money on something that you know you may never or rarely use again.
Help is now at hand however thanks to our latest Startup of the Week.
Fat Lama is an online platform that connects people who need things, with others in their neighbourhood that have it to lend.
The premise is that by lending out your possessions through the site, you can “make your stuff work for you.”
Here’s how it works:
As a lender, simply list the item you want to lend on the platform, add some pics and outline the price, location and details of when it’s available.
Interested borrowers can then use the platform’s messaging service to contact you, make arrangements to borrow said item and also make payment for the borrowing.
There are all sorts of items listed on Fat Lama - everything from Projector Screens to Wedding Dresses! Most importantly, all the items listed are fully covered by Insurance so lenders are well protected.
The platform’s benefits are clear to see. It is a fab resource for people looking to make a bit of extra cash on items they already own. It is a great way of people forging new links within their local communities and it is, of course really helping the environment.
Borrowing is the new buying…
