Startup of the Week - Diaspo

by Startacus Admin
Diaspo is a platform that is facilitating authentic cooking classes between different generations...
Let’s face it - there is something quite special about family recipes that have been passed down from our parents or grandparents. Apart from the sharing of knowledge and tips, they can also evoke wonderful memories and of course help us to keep a link to our past open.
It’s not just about food though - for many communities, it’s about retaining culture too.
Having recognised this, our latest startup of the week is on a mission to help.
Diaspo is an online platform that “facilitates the exchange of authentic knowledge and skills between generations, starting with food and cooking”.
The Diaspo platform hosts a range of live and interactive cooking classes, all facilitated by, “the generation that knows best”.
To use the platform, you simply select the class you’d like to join and then either cook alongside them or watch live. As you’d expect, all the ingredients you would need are listed so that you can be fully prepped in advance.
As the classes are intimate with a limited number of people accessing each one, you can also ask the teacher any questions that you might have. As well as sharing tips on the actual recipe, the teachers may also share details of the history of the dish and the role it played in their life or family. All classes are on Zoom and last for around 45 minutes and when the class is over you can thank your teacher with a tip.
At the time of writing there are all sorts of classes on offer - from a North Indian Daal through to a Caribbean fish dish. What the teachers all have in common of course is the fact that they are authentic and all passionate about cooking and sharing the knowledge of their traditional recipes.
New teachers are joining the platform all the time, so if you think that your dad or grandma ought to be on there sharing your family recipes, you can get them to register online and they could soon be doing just that.
We love the fact that Diaspo is merging tradition with innovation - traditional recipes and modern video technology and that it is recognising the vital importance of passing on skills and knowledge between generations.
In fact Diaspo - we’re loving your work…
