Startup of the Week - Depop

by Startacus Admin
Whilst most of us are pretty comfortable with buying and selling online these days, it’d be fair to say that we probably still have our grumbles about different aspects of the entire buying and selling process. Thanks to our latest Startup of the Week however, those grumbles could become few and far between.
Depop is a mobile app available for both iOS and Android which puts a little fun back into buying and selling. How? Well it combines commerce with social networking for a start! This free app lets you buy and sell straight from your pocket.
If you want to sell something, you simply take a pic and upload it, add some details and then declare the price you want. There are no listing fees no matter how many items you want to sell.
Potential buyers can ‘like’ your items, comment on them and chat directly with you about them. Then they’ll hopefully buy! If they do, Depop will charge you a 10% fee for any items that have been sold. Not bad huh?
The social aspect is what makes Depop truly unique - being able to follow users and interact directly with buyers and sellers and see other people's interactions is a pretty awesome feature.
Browsing through Depop is a pleasure too as is its search functionality. You can search by item type, user or even by hashtag - which of course is dependent on a seller adding them!
Everything about Depop is incredibly simple and easy to use.
What we love most about this innovative app, is the fact that it proves the point that there is always room for a little improvement in business. Depop is taking on some of the biggest names in the ecommerce world and by the looks of things is well on the road to succeeding.
If you haven’t already done so, we reckon you should try Depop out.
You’ll like it.
We do.
Lots.
