Startup of the Week - COLLECTIVfood

by Startacus Admin
Like many industries, the food sector has generally always relied very much on the middleman - typically the wholesalers who form the link between retailers and buyers. Whilst this traditional supply chain has served the industry well to date, a little innovation would surely be welcomed, especially when it benefits both restaurateurs and food producers alike.
This in essence is at the very core of our latest startup of the week.
COLLECTIVfood is an online procurement platform where restaurants can connect directly with independent food and drink producers.
If you’re a restaurateur, there’s no need to liaise with wholesalers and hope that the products you require are either in stock or of the required standard when they eventually reach you - you can link directly with the food producer.
All the food producers featured on the platform are either independently owned, and produce, grow or rear their own products or alternatively add some additional value to products made by other independent producers or fisheries.
Either way, the quality of the produce is paramount and must meet all required standards before it is listed on the site.
By sourcing their ingredients from COLLECTIVfood, restaurateurs then can be confident that they are ensuring that their customers receive the best produce available. Also, since the platform enables restaurateurs to compare product prices and track and manage stock orders and invoices, it also helps them become more productive and profitable. Music to the ears of any business person!
Of course it is not just the restaurateurs who benefit from this innovative platform. For food producers, the platform provides an excellent way of enabling them to reach an entirely new customer base and thereby generate revenue and grow their businesses.
We love the fact that COLLECTIVfood is disrupting a traditional business function in such a huge industry and also that the impact of that disruption is so positive for all concerned. Everyone benefits - the food producers, the restaurateurs and also the customers.
It may still be relatively early days for this startup but we reckon it is certainly one to watch…
