Startup of the Week - ArtSpotter

by Startacus Admin
If you’re an art lover, chances are you spend quite a bit of your time in galleries, museums and the like. Of course those aren’t the only places where new and interesting art can be discovered. There are all sorts of small exhibitions, showcases and street art happenings which you may come across but lots of other people don’t. The good news is that thanks to our latest Startup of the Week, discovering and sharing the art that is all around you has been made so much easier.
ArtSpotter is an app which lets you “interact with galleries, museums and street art from the palm of your hand.”
It’s not however just a simple guide to what’s out there - a listing of exhibitions and artworks, if you like. Instead there is a much more social element to this app - it’s more about engaging with people and places in realtime. You can use it to follow other users and see what art they are discovering. The Spot button allows you to add a gallery, a venue or even a piece of street art to the ArtSpotter database and the app automatically adds your location - a bit like a ‘check-in’ of sorts!
The great thing about this Startup is not only is it slowly becoming a definitive resource for all things ‘arty’, but it is also building up quite a niche community of people all across the world who are passionate about art. People who aren’t just interested in art from a particular historical perspective or from a commercial perspective - but instead people who have a passion for discovering and appreciating art and sharing that with other like-minded souls. For that reason alone, we think ArtSpotter is ace!
Oh - while we are on the case - if you love art and need a little community inspiration - check out our feature on Art About Us!
